This humanitarian infrastructure project involves the technical supervision of multiple primary school blocks across the Kasungu District. Partnering with BuildOn, an international NGO dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy, MK Consulting Engineers ensures that these educational facilities are built to last, providing safe and high-quality learning environments for rural communities.

The project is valued at USD 1,600,000 and is managed through a 12-month supervision cycle. It highlights your firm’s ability to manage distributed construction sites while maintaining strict adherence to both engineering standards and humanitarian safeguarding protocols.

Narrative Description of Infrastructure

The scope of work focuses on the decentralized construction of essential educational infrastructure:

  • Primary School Blocks: Construction of modern classrooms designed for durability and high-occupancy use in rural environments.

  • Distributed Site Management: Unlike a single-site commercial project, this assignment requires the coordination of supervision across various primary school locations within the Kasungu District, ensuring uniformity in quality across all sites.

Professional Services and Safeguarding

As the supervising consultancy, the focus extends beyond structural integrity to encompass the social and environmental standards expected by international NGOs. Key services provided include:

  • Quality Control & Site Inspections: Regular visits to each school site to verify that materials (such as cement-to-sand ratios and reinforcement steel) and workmanship meet the required technical specifications.

  • Environmental Safeguard Monitoring: Ensuring that construction activities do not negatively impact the local environment and that resource use is sustainable.

  • Health and Safety (HSE) Checks: Implementing and monitoring safety protocols on-site to protect the local community, student populations, and construction workers.

  • Technical Reporting: Providing the Deputy Country Director, Atusaye Mwafulirwa, with Monthly Reports that track progress, flag potential delays, and document quality compliance.

Project Leadership

The assignment is staffed by a dedicated field team:

  • Eng. Moses Kalenga (Supervising Engineer): Responsible for high-level technical oversight, quality certification, and stakeholder coordination with BuildOn.

  • Thokozani Kadzakumanja (Inspector of Works): Provides the essential day-to-day on-site presence, monitoring construction phases and enforcing technical standards.
